The Kirstenbosch Plant Fair is a highlight of every year for any botanophile, but for us this year’s Fair has topped them all. Not only did we meet fellow planty people and spread the word about locally indigenous gardening to our customers, but we were awarded the John Winter prize for the Best Commercial Grower’s Stand! What an honour for our Cape Flats Fynbos Nursery. Looking forward to claiming our prize of an overnight stay at the beautiful Hearth & Soul Eco-Farm & Retreat
. Stands were judged according to overall impression, overall design, construction, stand personnel and plant quality.
Our stand, while still well stocked on Saturday.
The other prizewinners were Jane von Witt and Almuth Delius, who won the prize for Best Hobbyist Stand. Proceeds from their stand will fund musical instruments for the Manenberg Lads and Girls Brigade which operates under the auspices of the Manenberg Reconciliation Church. Plant donations were gratefully received from the Kirstenbosch wholesale nursery, Kirstenbosch Garden Centre, Cape Flats Fynbos Nursery, Rosebank Garden Club and private growers and friends.
Another year will surely pass quicker than the last and the 2016 Fair will be here before we know it. And we will be there with an even greater variety of species from the Cape Town lowlands…excited already!
